HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Closure of Welch Avenue for Campustown Rail Jam RESOLUTION NO. 05-046 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF WELCH AVENUE FOR CAMPUSTOWN RAIL JAM FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, staff met with a representative of the Iowa State University Ski and Snowboard Club regarding the possibility of holding a First Annual Campustown Rail Jam on Welch Avenue;and, WHEREAS, organizers request the closure of Welch Avenue north of Fire Station No. 2 and south of Lincoln Way; and, WHEREAS,the street and adjacent parking spaces would be closed to facilitate the hauling in and/or making of snow on Welch Avenue; and, WHEREAS, the Public Works Department will provide barricades appropriate for the closure of the street and street entrance to the City parking lot located to the west of Welch Avenue; and, WHEREAS,event organizers will be responsible for providing adequate interior fencing and hay bales in order to protect participants; and, WHEREAS,City staff will approve the final safety measures to keep participants from colliding with street lights and parking meters and from going onto Lincoln Way; and, WHEREAS,Campustown businesses and the neighborhood have indicated their support for this event, and the University is providing insurance coverage for the Club; and, WHEREAS, event organizers will be responsible for removing packed snow and ice from the street surface and applying appropriate sand/calcium chloride treatments to prevent ice build-up on the street surface. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that the closure of Welch Avenue from 11:00 a.m.on February 12,2005,to 1:00 a.m.on February 13,2005, for the First Annual Campustown Rail Jam is hereby approved.
