HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Site clean-up of Charles Calhoun Memorial Park RESOLUTION NO. 04-554 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SITE CLEAN-UP OF "CHARLES CALHOUN MEMORIAL PARK" FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,in 2003,the Calhoun family contacted Parks and Recreation staff to investigate the possibility of donating a 3.87-acre parcel to the City of Ames to be used as parkland; and, WHEREAS, this land is located on the east side of Dawes Drive adjacent to Ada Hayden Heritage Park; and, WHEREAS, the parcel has set vacant for many years and equipment/supplies of a former landscaping business along with a dilapidated building remain at the site; and, WHEREAS,staff estimates that it will cost approximately$5,000 to$6,000 in dumping fees at the landfill to discard all that remains at this location; WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation and Public Works staff members will accomplish site cleanup as weather allows during the winter; and, WHEREAS,in 2003,City Council authorized an expenditure from the Parkland Acquisition and Development Fund not to exceed$15,000 for a land survey,land appraisal,and Environmental Study to be completed prior to the City Attorney preparing the Deed for the City to accept this land donation; and, WHEREAS, staff is requested that the remaining $6,000 in that account be utilized for debris- and building removal and site clean-up efforts. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that site clean-up of the Charles Calhoun Memorial Park be authorized at a cost not to exceed $6,000 (from the Parkland Acquisition and Development Fund.
