RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT
AND AUTHORIZING MATCHING FUNDS FOR REHABILITATION OF
TAXIWAY PARALLEL TO RUNWAY 01/19
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, on November 13, 1997, the Council accepted the completion of a master plan update for the Ames
Municipal Airport;and,
WHEREAS,this plan examined all the needs ofthe airport and recommended improvements to keep the infrastructure
in safe condition;and,
WHEREAS, each year,the City submits a copy of the improvements requesting Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA)funding to the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT);and,
WHEREAS,these requests are then forwarded to the FAA for consideration;and,
WHEREAS,the 2005/06 CIP includes a project for the rehabilitation of the taxiway parallel to Runway 01/19,and
this rehabilitation is needed due to pavement deterioration caused by oxidation and the winter elements;and,
WHEREAS,the City was notified on October 6,2004,that FAA grant funding for this project is pending,however,
the FAA has requested that the design for this project begin immediately;and,
WHEREAS,a grant offer will not be issued until bids for the project are received in March 2005;and,
WHEREAS,the total estimated cost for the project is$325,122 with the FAA portion being$308,866 and the City's
share being$16,256;and,
WHEREAS,due to the existing workload of the Engineering Division,the services of a consultant must be retained
to keep the project on schedule as outlined by the FAA; and,
WHEREAS,Earth Tech of Des Moines,Iowa,has submitted a proposal for the design services in the amount not to
exceed$37,000;and,
WHEREAS,Earth Tech has been chosen as the consultant for the taxiway project because it was selected through
a competitive process for the associated runway project that is being completed this fall.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Engineering
Services Agreement with Earth Tech of Des Moines,Iowa,for design services for the rehabilitation of the taxiway parallel to
Runway 01/19 in an amount not to exceed$37,000 is hereby approved;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that matching funds in the amount of$16,256 for this project are hereby approved.
