RESOLUTION APPROVING EXPENDITURES FOR
NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FOR 2004/05
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, for the ninth consecutive year,the City Council has appropriated local option
sales tax funds to finance the Neighborhood Improvement Program(NIP),and this year,$50,000 was
approved for neighborhood projects; and,
WHEREAS, at this time, $25,000 is earmarked for NIP with the remaining $25,000
earmarked for projects under the oversight of the Planning and Housing Department; and,
WHEREAS, there are two main goals of the NIP: 1) to strengthen a neighborhood's
appearance with the addition of permanent, physical improvements, and 2) to promote a greater
sense of community through resident participation in a neighborhood project; and,
WHEREAS, five applications were received for a total funding request of$15,051.27 as
follows:Eastwood Village Community Gathering Place project for$5,000,Ashmore Circle Resting
and Gathering Place project for $1,600, Harrison Road Tree-Planting project for $2,425, Stone
Brooke Entry Sign project for $4,091.77, and Sunset & Ash Triangle Improvement project for
$1,934.50.
WHEREAS,additional information was requested from the applicant for Eastwood Village
Community Gathering Place project regarding the calculation of in-kind and donated labor, and at
this time, that information has not been received.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the expenditure of$10,051.27 for the Ashmore Circle Resting and Gathering Place project,
Harrison Road Tree-Planting project, Stone Brooke Entry Sign project,and Sunset&Ash Triangle
Improvement is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 14th day of September, 2004.
