RESOLUTION APPROVING PARKING SPACE CLOSURES FOR
THE OCTAGON ART FESTIVAL
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,The Octagon Center for the Arts plans to host an art festival in the Central Business District
(CBD) on Sunday, September 26, 2004, to begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS,booths selling art and craft items,as well as food vending,will be in operation during the
day; and,
WHEREAS,to facilitate this event,the following items are being requested by the Octagon Center: 1)
closure of Main Street from a point east of the Wells Fargo driveway to the east side of the intersection of Main
and Douglas; 2) closure of Burnett Avenue from a point just north of the downtown alley to Tom Evans Plaza;
3)closure of Kellogg Avenue from a point just north of the downtown alley to the south edge of the Main and
Kellogg intersection;and,4)closure of Douglas Avenue from the Fifth Street intersection south to Main Street;
and
WHEREAS,organizers are also requesting closure ofparking spaces within the closed street areas as well
as the first two parking spaces on the north and south sides of Main Street just to the east of the barricade at
Douglas Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,this will facilitate traffic turn-around; and,
WHEREAS, sandwich board signs will be placed on Duff Avenue warning of the Main Street closure;
and,
WHEREAS, streets and parking spaces will be closed at 6:00 a.m. on September 26 and will reopen at
approximately 9:00 p.m; and,
WHEREAS,the Ames Main Street District has been informed of the event and is in support of it.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the
closure of parking spaces as previously stipulated for The Octagon Center for the Arts Art Festival to be held on
September 26, 2004, in the Central Business District is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 14"'day of September,2004.
