HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Engineering Services Agreement for Electirc Tie Line - Compliant Study RESOLUTION NO. 04-349 RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR ELECTRIC TIE LINE- COMPLIANT STUDY FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,this year's budget includes a CIP project to install a 161-kV interconnection with Mid- American Energy Company(MEC)and to upgrade the current interconnection with Alliant Utilities(AU); and, WHEREAS,the City has two 69-kV interconnections with other utilities:a line that connects Ames with MEC on the west side of Ankeny;and,a line that extends from Ames'Stange Road substation to AU's Boone Junction; and, WHEREAS,a transmission planning study was completed in October 2002, and the conclusion of this study recommends the conversion of the Ames Stange Road to AU's Boone Junction line to 161-kV; and, WHEREAS, it further recommends constructing another 161-kV transmission line to MEC's NE Ankeny substation; and, WHEREAS, as a member of the Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (MAPP), Ames is required to perform a MAPP Design Review Subcommittee—Compliant Study and Report for the 161-kV Tie Line Project; and, WHEREAS,this study will perform power flow and stability analysis to demonstrate conformance with MAPP System Design Standards; and, WHEREAS, Electric Services staff contacted three qualified engineering firms for availability to perform the study, and Excel Engineering, Inc., of Minneapolis, Minnesota,was selected as the best firm to complete the study in a timely manner so as to keep the project on scheduled for completion in 2006. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the Engineering Services Agreement with Excel Engineering, Inc., for the MAPP—DRS Compliant Study in the amount of$91,900.00 is hereby approved.
