HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Artwork acquisition for City Hall RESOLUTION NO. 04-280 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ARTWORK ACQUISITION IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,000 FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the Public Art Commission is requesting that the City purchase "Orange Dragon," a piece of public art now placed on the southwest corner of Ames City Hall; and, WHEREAS, because of its appeal to both adults and children, "Orange Dragon" has essentially been leased from Dave Johnson, the artist, for the past two years; and, WHEREAS,rather than renewing the lease for yet another year,the Public Art Commission would like to purchase"Orange Dragon"with the intention of leaving it at its present location; and, WHEREAS,the artist desires to"donate"approximately$900 to lower the price of the piece, making a total of$3,000 necessary to acquire this sculpture permanently; and, WHEREAS, the funds to purchase "Orange Dragon" would be allocated from the Neighborhood Sculpture program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the purchase of"Orange Dragon," a sculpture created by artist Dave Johnson, for the price of $3,000 is hereby approved. ADOPTED THIS 22nd day of June, 2004. Diane R.
