RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR
4TH OF JULY PARADE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, staff met with representatives of Leadership Ames who are proposing to hold
a parade on Sunday, July 4; and,
WHEREAS, parade participants will assemble in the west end of the Central Business
District(CBD)parking lot and proceed north on Clark Avenue to Main Street and east along Main
Street to the entrance of the CBD lot near the intersection of Duff Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, organizers are asking that portions of the CBD lot be closed for assembling
parade participants, and staff is recommending that the CBD lot between Kellogg and Clark be
closed for this purpose; and,
WHEREAS,Clark Avenue will be closed from north of the railroad tracks to the Fifth Street
intersection to facilitate the movement of the parade participants from the CBD lot onto Main Street,
and this portion of Clark will close at 12:45 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS, Main Street from Clark to Duff will close at 1:00 p.m. for movement of the
parade, and access to Main Street will be prohibited from the following intersections: Burnett and
Fifth;Kellogg and Fifth;Kellogg and CBD lot;Douglas and Fifth;Douglas and CBD lot; and,Duff
and Main.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the following street/parking lot closures for the 4`h of July Parade are hereby approved until its
conclusion: the Central Business District lot from Clark to Kellogg beginning at noon; Clark from
the U.P. Railroad track north to Fifth Street starting at 12:45 p.m.; and, Main Street from Clark to
Duff beginning at 1:00 p.m.
