HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Waiver of parking fees and regulations for Tune-in to Main Street event RESOLUTION NO. 04-228 RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF PARKING FEES AND REGULATIONS FOR "TUNE-IN TO MAIN STREET" EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the kick-off for the "Tune-In to Main Street" event will be June 3 and will include sidewalk displays and entertainment in Tom Evans Plaza; and, WHEREAS, special activities and promotions will then occur on Thursdays from June 3 through September 30,2004; and, WHEREAS,this event is intended to further the energy created by the Thursday's Farmer's Market activities as well as Thursday evening band concerts at Bandshell Park; and, WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce and the Main Street Cultural District requests that the Council waive parking fees from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on June 3 through June 5, and again every Thursday through September 30, 2004; and, WHEREAS,staff has calculated that the lost revenue to the Parking Fund by Waiving parking fees for the entire day for 18 Thursdays is $9,846, and this is 6%of the parking revenue generated to support enforcement and maintenance of parking functions in the Downtown; and, WHEREAS, this amount is in addition to the waivers previously approved by the Council that include"Downtown Dollar Days", "Art Appreciation Week,"and the Winter Holiday season; and, WHEREAS, staff would offer a compromise position that would waive parking fees and enforcement from 3:00 p.m.to 6:00 p.m. on those 18 Thursdays as this would coincide with the Farmer's Market hours; and, WHEREAS, the cost to the Parking Fund for this alternative would be approximately$2,950. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that waiver parking fees and enforcement of parking regulations from 8:00 a.m.to 6:00 p.m.on June 3 through June 5, 2004, and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays through September 30, 2004, is hereby approved.
