RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT WITH ORION BUS INDUSTRIES,LTD.,
FOR PURCHASE OF FOUR 40-FOOT TRANSIT BUSES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,four additional 40-foot standard design transit buses need to be purchased for replacement
of existing vehicles; and,
WHEREAS, the bid documents called for a base quantity plus an "option quantity" of up to two
additional units; and,
WHEREAS,the"option quantity"allows the City to purchase these additional units at the bid price
if funding is approved; and,
WHEREAS,the City Council approved the purchase of eight 40-foot transit buses on March 26,2002;
the seven base quantity units plus one of the possible two"option quantity"; and,
WHEREAS, the Board has requested and received a conditional authorization from the Office of
Public Transit to amend the existing contract with Orion Bus Industries allowing modification of that contract
from nine to 12 buses,and,therefore,is requesting authorization to purchase four additional 40-foot buses;and,
WHEREAS, Orion Bus Industries is offering to sell the four additional buses to the City of
Ames/Ames Transit Agency Board of Trustees at$269,546,and the Office of Public Transit indicates that this
price remains fair and reasonable; and,
WHEREAS,the proposed 2005 budget includes $949,520 for bus purchases; and,
WHEREAS, the FTA grants will provide 83% of the cost of these buses exclusive of extended
warranties, and the local share of$202,300 is in the Transit Capital Fund balance.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the
contract for the purchase of four 40-foot transit buses with Orion Bus Industries, LTD., of Oriskany, New
York,in the total amount of$1,078,184,pursuant to the Iowa Department of Transportation's concurrence,is
hereby approved.
