HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Reduction of FTE in Customer Services Division RESOLUTION NO. 04-157 RESOLUTION REDUCING FTES IN CUSTOMER SERVICES DIVISION EFFECTIVE MAY 15, 2004 FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the Customer Services Division implemented a continuous improvement plan which includes reviewing processes to determine if customer services can be maintained or enhanced while maintaining or reducing costs; and, WHEREAS, a review of the print-to-mail process for utility bills revealed a potential for enhancing customer service and reducing costs; and, WHEREAS, benefits can be gained by taking advantage of the data,print technology, and automated postage processing available through large production vendors; and, WHEREAS, additional savings will be realized by reducing costs for equipment, printer supplies and maintenance, warehousing, and personnel; and, WHEREAS,since a Customer Services employee will be retiring in May 2004,the intention is to fill the position with no more than a three-quarter permanent part-time position thereby resulting in a net savings of about $11,000 per year; and, WHEREAS, in addition,an employee in the Information Services Division will be retiring with that position being filled by a part-time person which will cut the hours related to printing utility bills and resulting in a savings of approximately$10,000 per year; WHEREAS, total direct savings are expected to be $18,000 per year. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the three-quarter reduction in the Full Time Equivalents (FTEs) authorized for the Finance Utility Customer Services Division effective May 15, 2004, is hereby approved.
