HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement for East Lincoln Way Widening RESOLUTION NO.04-149 RESOLUTION APPROVING SUPPLEMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH SNYDER&ASSOCIATES FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR EAST LINCOLN WAY WIDENING FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the 2004/09 Capital Improvement Program(CIP)provides$4,000,000 of G.O.Bond financing for a project in 2004/05 to reconstruct East Lincoln Way from the Skunk River Bridge to Interstate 35; and, WHEREAS,prior to design of the project,the Council contracted with Snyder&Associates for preliminary design services to work with the area property owners and determine a design concept that would meet their needs and the needs of the traveling public;and, WHEREAS,the preliminary design study looked at traffic projections,traffic accidents,pavement condition, and turning lane needs; and, WHEREAS, the existing pavement is in poor to very poor condition and can not be economically rehabilitated,and there is a need to provide for left turn lanes at the intersections and many of the driveways to major businesses; and, WHEREAS,the design considerations included phasing of the project to minimize interruption to driveway access,available right-of-way,pedestrian and bicycle safety, and utility conflicts; and, WHEREAS,the analysis of the traffic volumes and turn lanes indicated the need for a five-lane facility from the Skunk River Bridge to Dayton Avenue,a three-lane street from Dayton Avenue to 1-35,and a bike/pedestrian trail from east of Cherry Avenue to the interstate;and, WHEREAS,the preliminary design study was accepted by the Council in October 2003;and, WHEREAS,it is now time to initiate the final design and preparation of the plans and specifications for this project, and because the City contracted with Snyder & Associates for the initial study and it has developed an extensive knowledge of the corridor area,it is appropriate to continue with this firm as the design is completed;and, WHEREAS,the cost for Snyder&Associates'services total$355,695. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that Supplement Agreement No. 1 for engineering services with Snyder&Associates for the East Lincoln Way Widening Project is hereby approved.
