HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement for Worle Creek Sanitary Sewer Extension Study RESOLUTION NO.04-148 RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR WORLE CREEK SANITARY SEWER EXTENSION STUDY FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,staff was directed to evaluate the progress made in implementing the Land Use Policy Plan(LUPP) that was revised in 1998,and on August 21,2003,this analysis was presented to the Council;and, WHEREAS, the issue concerning lack of development and developer-owned land in the Southwest Priority Growth Area was identified,and staff suggested that the Council consider accelerating growth in the area by constructing a trunk sanitary sewer line to the southwest along Worle Creek; and, WHEREAS,the sewer extension would generally serve the area bounded by Dartmoor Road,State Avenue,U.S. Highway 30,and the Boone County line;and, WHEREAS,this proactive approach to installing infrastructure would be a departure from the current City policy of waiting until a developer interested in developing the area approaches the City;and, WHEREAS,residents along the possible Worle Creek sewer alignment became concerned of possible impacts to their properties as well as the possible urbanization of the area;and, WHEREAS,a staff report detailing the issues and concerns was presented to the Council on December 16,2003, and at that time,staff was directed to develop a study for this project,work with abutting property owners in an attempt to minimize negative impacts and disruption to the area,and gather information about environmental concerns;and, WHEREAS,the basic intent of the study will be to define the service area of the sewer extension,perform an environmental inventory of the area,provide construction alternatives with associated impacts and costs, and identify restoration and possible mitigation procedures;and, WHEREAS,a request for competitive proposals to provide engineering services was sent out,and three proposals were returned and evaluated by staff,and, WHEREAS, it was determined that Stanley Consultants, Inc., of Des Moines, Iowa, would provide the most effective services for the project;and, WHEREAS,the cost of the proposed engineering services contract is not to exceed$66,500. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the engineering services agreement with Stanley Consultants,Inc.,of Des Moines,Iowa,in the amount of$66,500 for the Worle Creek Sanitary Sewer Extension Study is hereby approved.
