HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closures for VEISHEA Parade RESOLUTION NO. 04-144 RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES FOR VEISHEA 2004 PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,staging for the 2004 VEISHEA Parade will begin at 3:00 a.m.on Saturday,April 17, 2004, and in order to facilitate the movement of the floats from their construction locations to the ISU campus,barricades will be put in place shortly after 2:00 a.m.to close a number of streets needed for float movement; and, WHEREAS, this is monitored by representatives of the Ames Police Department; and, WHEREAS, portions of Greeley, Beach, South Sheldon, Knapp, Ash, Sunset, Hunt, Lynn, Hayward, and Lincoln Way are needed to accomplish this movement, and since Lincoln Way is considered an arterial street, Council approval is needed for their closure from beginning at 2:00 a.m. through 6:30 a.m.; and, WHEREAS,barricades will be staffed by VEISHEA volunteers,and the Police Department has approved the staging assignments and barricade locations; and, WHEREAS, in accordance with this plan, Lincoln Way from Beach Avenue to South Sheldon Avenue will be temporarily closed; and, WHEREAS,additional temporary street closures not requiring City Council approval will occur on Sunset, Greeley,Ash,Knapp, and South Sheldon Avenue. WHEREAS, Public Works staff will place "no parking" signs so as to warn the public of these closures and to prevent interference with parked vehicles as much as possible. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the temporary closure of Lincoln Way from Beach Avenue to South Sheldon Avenue on Saturday,April 17, 2004, from 2:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. is hereby approved.
