RESOLUTION APPROVING PLATTING AGREEMENT
FOR THE AMES MIDDLE SCHOOL 2003 SUBDIVISION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,for the past year, administrators from the City and the Ames Community School
District have been working cooperatively to develop the site at Mortensen Road and State Street as
a Middle School, and possibly, in the longer term, as a City Recreation/Aquatic Center; and,
WHEREAS, initially, it was contemplated that the City and School District would be
pursuing the two construction projects at the same time, however, with the results of the recent Rec
Plex bond issue, it was evident that the School District would have to move ahead with the
construction of the new Middle School; and,
WHEREAS, the City hoped to reserve the possibility of constructing a Recreation/Aquatic
Center on this shared site should a bond issue be passed some time in the future; and,
WHEREAS,after a series of very productive discussions, the staff of the School District and
the City were able to reach a consensus on the Platting Agreement; and,
WHEREAS,the Platting Agreement makes it clear that should the City Council not take any
official action to award a construction contract for a recreation facility on the site before June 30,
2014, the agreement by the School District to reserve land on the site for the Recreation/Aquatic
Center and the City's agreement to share in the cost of the infrastructure items would terminate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the attached Platting Agreement for the Ames Middle School site is hereby approved.
