HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Farm lease for airport property RESOLUTION NO. 04-003 RESOLUTION APPROVING AIRPORT PROPERTY FARM LEASE FOR 2004 FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the City owns approximately 480 acres of land around the airport,ofwhich 285 acres are available for farming; and, WHEREAS,this land is used for agricultural production purposes and provides income for airport facility improvements and operations; and, WHEREAS, the City has entered into a 50-50 crop share lease with Kaltenheuser Farms, Ltd., each year since 1989; and, WHEREAS,this lease provided$32,613 in net revenues to the airport for operations in fiscal year 2002/03; and, WHEREAS,upon the recommendation of the farm manager,Council is being asked to enter into a modified crop lease this year; and, WHEREAS, due to the drought in 2003, poor soybean yields and crop prices will see farm revenues shrink to approximately $20,000 for FY 2003/04, and a 65-35 modified crop lease has been negotiated with Kaltenheuser Farms this year; and, WHEREAS, although the City is receiving less of the revenue,the new lease will minimize the City's exposure to operating costs related to seed, fertilizer, herbicides, and other farm chemicals; and, WHEREAS, it is expected that with a good crop year, revenues from this contract will be approximately$31,000 in FY 2004/05. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the crop share lease with Kaltenheuser Farms,Inc.,for the 2004 crop year at the Ames Municipal Airport is hereby approved.
