HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Sanitary sewer line in Southwest Growth Area RESOLUTION NO. 03-472 RESOLUTION DIRECTING STAFF TO DEVELOP A DESIGN CONCEPT FOR SANITARY SEWER TRUNKLINE IN THE SOUTHWEST GROWTH AREA FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, in order to provide gravity sanitary sewer service to the area south of Highway 30 in the Southwest Growth Priority Area,the trunk sewer would normally be constructed along the low, natural area of Worle Creek; and, WHEREAS, alternatives to this low-area location have been suggested, which include installing a lift station, constructing a line along streets and out of the natural areas, and installing individual grinder pumps for each property; and, WHEREAS, the Land Use Policy Plan (LUPP) reflects many strategies that should be considered smart growth initiatives and among them is the targeted growth strategy to the southwest; and, WHEREAS, many questions have been raised regarding the impact of the proposed Worle Creek Sanitary Sewer; and, WHEREAS, in the absence of a specific design, it is impossible to address these questions or work with the abutting property owners in an attempt to minimize negative impacts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that staff is hereby directed to develop a design concept for this project,work with the abutting property owners in an attempt to minimize negative impacts on their properties; and further directed to gather information about environmental concerns and providing minimal disruption to the land.
