RESOLUTION APPROVING FEE STRUCTURE
FOR PROPOSED RECREATION/AQUATICS COMPLEX
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the consultants retained by the City to provide the operational pro-forma for the
proposed Recreation/Aquatics Complex reported that expenditures were formulated on the costs that
are normally included in the operational budget for such a facility; and,
WHEREAS, these costs were based on the size of the center, specific components of the
facility, and the projected hours of operation; and,
WHEREAS, the anticipated annual operational cost for this $23.6 million Master Plan is
$1,625,788 for FY 2005/06, and the annual debt service cost for 20 years, at 4.5%,totals $1,814,277;
and,
WHEREAS, revenue projections were formulated from information on the specifics of the
project and the demographics of the service area as well as comparing them to national statistics,other
similar facilities, and recreation services in the area; and,
WHEREAS, two revenue fee structures were included in the consultant's report using
conservative attendance numbers; and,
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved the $385 rate
structure and recommended that the auditorium,gymnasium,and weight/cardio room at the Community
Center and Carr and Municipal Pools be maintained.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
the rate for a family pass at the proposed Recreation/Aquatics Center be set at$385; the room rental
rates as suggested by the consultants be approved, and the gym and cardio/weight rooms at the
Community Center, Municipal Pool, and Carr Pool be kept open with the Council retaining the
prerogative to evaluate these facilities annually.
