HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Alternate Energy Purchase Program RESOLUTION NO. 03-392 RESOLUTION APPROVING ALTERNATE ENERGY PURCHASE PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,on August 29,2003,the Iowa Utilities Board(IUB)issued final rules for the Alternate Energy Purchase Program requirement that require municipal utilities to offer such programs that allow customers to voluntarily contribute to the development of alternate energy in Iowa; and, WHEREAS, each utility is required to announce its program to customers by November 1, 2003, with sign-up to begin no later than January 1, 2004; and, WHEREAS, customers are to be allowed to contribute voluntarily to the program at rates determined by their governing authority; and, WHEREAS,the program is intended to promote the development of new alternate energy resources in Iowa and to be a supplement to other existing, renewable resources; and, WHEREAS,qualifying alternate energy resources include solar,wind,waste management,resource recovery, refuse-derived fuel, agricultural crops and residues, and wood burning; and, WHEREAS, staff recommends establishing a program whereby electric customers can voluntarily contribute via their monthly bill each month with a one-year commitment requirement with the program beginning January 1, 2004; and, WHEREAS, accrued contributions will be used in the development of future alternative energy resources; and, WHEREAS,the Council has approved consultant services to develop an Integrated Resource Plan that will aid in the identification of renewable resources towards which the accrued moonies will be directed. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the Alternate Energy Purchase Program allowing customers to voluntarily contribute via their monthly bill with a one-year commitment requirement is hereby approved.
