HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - National Register Eligibility for Old Town Historic District RESOLUTION NO.03-383 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO EXECUTE CERTIFICATION OF RECOMMENDATION OF NATIONAL REGISTER ELIGIBILITY FOR THE OLD TOWN HISTORIC DISTRICT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the City of Ames was designated as a Certified Local Government(CLG)in December 1995,and one of the responsibilities of a CLG is to review National Register nominations on any property that lies in the jurisdiction of the local Historic Preservation Commission; and, WHEREAS,the State Nominations Review Committee(SNRC)plans to consider the nomination for the Old Town Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places, including the multiple property listing,"A Home for Science and Technology:Ames,Iowa;"and, WHEREAS,the Old Town Historic District is generally located between Clark and Duff Avenues and 7"'and 9' Streets;and, WHEREAS, the SNRC has requested that the Historic Preservation Commission and the Mayor review the Multiple Property Documentation Form and review the nomination of the Old Town Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places to determine whether the nominated historic district meets the National Register of Historic Places significance criteria; and, WHEREAS, William C. Page, Public Historian, prepared the multiple property listing and the nomination,which includes 249 buildings and one site; and, WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission reviewed this request at their meeting of September 15,2003,and recommended that the Multiple Property Documentation Form be approved by the National Park Service, determined that the nomination of the Old Town Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places meets Criteria"A"and"C,"and recommended National Register eligibility to the State Nominations Review Committee. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, hereby recommends that the Multiple Property Documentation Form be approved by the National Park Service;finds that the nomination ofthe Old Town Historic District to the National Register ofHistoric Places meets Criteria "A"and"C;"and recommends National Register eligibility to the State Nominations Review Committee. ADOPTED THIS 23rd day of September,2003.
