RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET AND PARKING LOT CLOSURES
FOR THE FACES CELEBRATION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, on October 11, 2003, Families of Ames Celebrate EthnicitieS (FACES) is
sponsoring a fall cultural diversity celebration; and,
WHEREAS, this event is an outgrowth of the City's Human Relations Commission
DIALOGUES on race, ethnicity, and community relations; and,
WHEREAS,the celebration will be from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS,FACES is requesting the following street closures in the Central Business District:
Clark Avenue from north of the alley south of Fifth Street to South of Sixth Street from 8:00 a.m.until
6:00 p.m.;Fifth Street from 100 feet east of Pearle Avenue to west of the driveway to the bank parking
lot on the southwest corner of Fifth Street and Burnett Avenue from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS,the organizers are further requesting that the City Hall's east parking lot be closed
from Friday, October 10, at 4:00 p.m. until Saturday, October 11, at 6:00 p.m. to be utilized for tents,
booths, and food vendors; and,
WHEREAS,FACES will be using City barricades for all intersections and will be staffed at all
times by the event volunteers; and,
WHEREAS,the organizers are also requesting use of 15 orange cones to block off parking(for
main stage performers)in the west lot of City Hall along with having City employees park City vehicles
in the north half of the parking lot.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
the street and parking lot closures as mentioned above are hereby approved for the FACES Celebration
to be held on Saturday, October 11, 2003.
ADOPTED THIS 23'day of September, 2003.
