HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Removal of trees along Main Street RESOLUTION NO. 03-365 RESOLUTION APPROVING REMOVAL OF TREES ALONG MAIN STREET WEST OF CLARK AVENUE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, on June 16, 2003, the Council referred a letter to staff received from Hubbell Realty for the removal of several ash trees on Main Street; and, WHEREAS,the trees on the south side of Main Street just north of Drug Town continue to be a nuisance from the bird droppings on the sidewalks; and, WHEREAS, staff posted notification of pending removal of the seven trees on Main Street and received several letters in opposition because of the shade and pleasant atmosphere created by the mature trees; and, WHEREAS,if these trees are removed,they would be replaced with locust trees of a similar variety to those now on Main Street and Fifth Street; and, WHEREAS, the project cost is estimated at $2,000 with a completion date this fall; and, WHEREAS, the renewal resource these replacement trees provide will allow a much healthier environment for all concerned. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the removal of the existing ash trees on Main Street west of the Clark Avenue intersection is hereby approved, and locust trees will be planted as replacements at the site at an estimated cost of $2,000.
