HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closure for Ames High School Homecoming Parade RESOLUTION NO. 03-358 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURE AND PARKING PROHIBITIONS ON FIFTH STREET EAST OF DUFF AVENUE TO ACCOMMODATE STAGING AREA FOR AMES HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Ames High School has requested to hold a homecoming parade on September 15, 2003 with a rain date of September 17; and, WHEREAS, the parade will begin at Bandshell Park, proceed west on Fifth Street, South on Burnett Avenue, and then east on Main Street, concluding at the Bandshell Park; and, WHEREAS, the parade will begin at 6:30 p.m., and barricades will be placed on streets along this route for traffic control purposes and will be staffed by High School officials and adult volunteers; and, WHEREAS, the Ames Main Street District has been informed of the parade and supports the activity; and, WHEREAS, the staging area for the parade will be east of Duff Avenue on Fifth Street adjacent to the Bandshell Park; and, WHEREAS,to accommodate activities in the staging area,this portion of Fifth Street needs to be closed from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.,and waiver of parking enforcement is also requested to ensure that conflicts are minimized. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the closure of Fifth Street and waiver of parking enforcement east of Duff Avenue from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on September 15, 2003, to accommodate a staging area for the Ames High School Homecoming Parade are hereby approved.
