HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Expenditures for Neighborhood Improvement Projects RESOLUTION NO. 03-338 RESOLUTION APPROVING EXPENDITURES FOR NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FOR 2003/04 FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,for the eighth consecutive year,the City Council has appropriated local option sales tax funds to finance the Neighborhood Improvement Program(NIP),and this year,$50,000 was approved for neighborhood projects; and, WHEREAS, at this time, $25,000 is earmarked for NIP with the remaining $25,000 earmarked for projects under the oversight of the Planning and Housing Department; and, WHEREAS, there are two main goals of the NIP: 1) to strengthen a neighborhood's appearance with the addition of permanent, physical improvements, and 2) to promote a greater sense of community through resident participation in a neighborhood project; and, WHEREAS, three applications were received for a total funding request of $11,368 as follows:Eastwood Village Playground for$5,000;Meeker Playground for$5,000;and,Bloomington Townhome Entrance Sign and Planting Area for$1,368; and, WHEREAS, the Rating Team felt the scope of the Bloomington Townhome Project is minimal, does not necessarily benefit the public, and it does not promote a public gathering space for the neighborhood. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the expenditure of$10,000 for the Eastwood Village and Meeker Playground Neighborhood Improvement Program projects is hereby approved,and the Bloomington Townhome project request for $1,368 is rejected.
