RESOLUTION APPROVING ADDITIONAL
ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION SERVICES FOR
CONSTRUCTION OF ADA HAYDEN HERITAGE PARK
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,in September 2002,the Council approved an engineering services agreement with Snyder and Associates
for the design of Ada Hayden Heritage Park;and,
WHEREAS,as the design activities were under way,several decisions were made and regulatory decisions were made
that have impacted the design activities;and,
WHEREAS,redesign of the well for potable water and a holding tank for septic waste as well as changes required
for the restroom building was an additional cost of$12,000;and,
WHEREAS,a sub-consultant,Bonestroo,for Snyder and Associates spent additional time on the parameters related
to the equipment that was to be installed to control backflow from the Skunk River to the lake,and this extra work totaled
$4,450; and,
WHEREAS, originally, the construction process was to involve a major grading and erosion control project and
another that was include building, seeding, and other ancillary items,it was determined it was best to separate the seeding
contract since the majority of that work is likely to be done in Spring 2004;and,
WHEREAS,the cost to prepare the documents for the extra contract is$2,500;and,
WHEREAS,the original contract did not include any costs for work to coordinate the archeological study that was
required as part of the Corps of Engineers permit,which totals$1,500;and,
WHEREAS, in addition to design costs, the existing contract only provided for a minimal level of construction
services;and,
WHEREAS,additional services during the construction will involve holding weekly meetings with the contractor,
reviewing work activities for conformance with design,and field review visits,and these additional activities total$14,320;
and,
WHEREAS, the cost of all the additional work elements totals $34,770, and the funding source will be from the
project contingency fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the additional
engineering and construction services for Construction of Ada Hayden Heritage Parkin the total amount of$34,770 are hereby
approved,and funding for the additional costs will be from the project contingency.
