HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Parallel position for full time power plant operator RESOLUTION NO. 03-260 RESOLUTION APPROVING PARALLEL POSITION FOR FTE POWER PLANT OPERATOR FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the continuous operations of the Power Plant require full staffing with a Power Plant Operator on each shift; and, WHEREAS, following an extended illness, one Operator is expected to take disability retirement upon exhaustion of his accrued medical leave this fall; and, WHEREAS, the resulting vacancy will be filled through a Civil Service promotion,which will eventually create an open recruitment to bring the Power Plant back to full staffing; and, WHEREAS, because the incumbent Operator is on paid leave, there is no actual vacancy despite the staff shortage caused by his absence; and, WHEREAS, in order to expedite full staffing and the need to train personnel, it would be appropriate to authorize an additional,parallel,Power Plant Operator position pending the disability retirement, with the understanding that at the time the current incumbent Operator retires, his position will be abolished; and, WHEREAS, staff believes that this action is necessary in order to expedite the Civil Service process and achieve full staffing with trained personnel. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the addition of one parallel FTE Power Plant Operator position is hereby approved with the understanding that at the time the current incumbent Operator retires,his position will be abolished.
