RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT FOR
TRUNKED RADIO EQUIPMENT,PAGERS,AND RELATED EQUIPMENT
AND SERVICES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,on February 8,1994,Council accepted aproposal from Electronic Equipment Company
of Ames,Iowa,to provide 800 MHz trunked radio communication equipment on a lease basis with a 10-year
price guarantee; and,
WHEREAS, this radio system allows communication among City departments, Iowa State
University,Mary Greeley Medical Center, Story County emergency responders, and other public agencies
within Story County; and,
WHEREAS,a radio users group was formed in November 2002 to review usage and explore options
for radio equipment in anticipation of the end of the 10-year price guarantee, and this group includes 11
representatives from various City departments who use the radio system and equipment; and,
WHEREAS,the group determined that it was in the City's best interest to continue use of the 800
MHz radio system by all City departments who have a need to communicate with one another on either a
regular or emergency basis, and it was further determined that paging equipment should be included in the
contract; and,
WHEREAS, a Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued, and one proposal was received from
Electronic Engineering Company; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed contract would extend through June 30, 2010, and would ensure
continuation of communication services without an increase in costs; and,
WHEREAS,the total annual costs for the equipment and services in the proposed contract would
be approximately$195,000/year.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the
contract with Electronic Engineering Company ofAmes,Iowa,to provide 800 MHz trunked radio equipment,
pagers, and related equipment and services for City departments is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24th day of June,2003.
