HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Winner of Landmark Challenge Competition RESOLUTION NO. 03-224 RESOLUTION APPROVING WINNER OF THE LANDMARK CHALLENGE COMPETITION AND AUTHORIZING PAYMENT OF AWARD FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the Landmark Challenge Competition was launched to seek a unique visual identity for Ames; and, WHEREAS, when people think of great cities, they often associate them with a visual symbol, and these structures usually become an image to identify these communities; and, WHEREAS,at 312 feet in height,the Electric Services Power Plant towers over Main Street in Ames, and it is a site many have wanted to convert into a community asset; and, WHEREAS, a competition was held to solicit ideas on an international level; and, WHEREAS, in all, 115 entries were received from all over the world, and"The Ring"by Rashmi Ramaswamy and Mark Peters was selected by a majority of the panel of jurists; and, WHEREAS, staff is requesting that the Council support the recommendation of the Landmark Challenge jurists,thereby approving the"The Ring"as the winner of the competition and authorize payment to Rashmi Ramaswamy and Mark Peters. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that winner of the Landmark Challenge competition, "The Ring",is hereby approved and the award of$10,000 to Rashmi Ramaswamy and Mark Peters of Chicago, Illinois, is hereby authorized.
