HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Grant application for Homeland Security Overtime Program RESOLUTION NO. 03-218 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF GRANT APPLICATION TO U.S.DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE HOMELAND SECURITY OVERTIME PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the Police Department is requesting permission to apply for funding from the United States Department of Justice to support overtime expenses associated with homeland security; and, WHEREAS, the Homeland Security Overtime Program is a one-year project designed to support a portion of police officer overtime expenses associated with homeland security training and security; and, WHEREAS,overtime expenses will be reimbursed over a l 2-month period to be determined by the Department of Justice; and, WHEREAS, the Police Department would use these funds to pay overtime expenses for major special events as well as for specialized training related to homeland security; and, WHEREAS, by applying for this funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, the Police Department would request$47,940 in funding to pay 75% of officers' overtime expenses, and the remaining 25%would be paid from the existing departmental overtime budget. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the submission of a grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice Homeland Security Overtime Program is hereby approved.
