RESOLUTION APPROVING PROFESSIONAL SERVICES CONTRACT
WITH DUNBAR JONES PARTNERSHIP TO
PREPARE PLANTING PLAN
PERTAINING TO SOUTHEAST ENTRYWAY PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,on March 25,2003,City Council approved a design concept for improvements for the Southeast
Entryway to Ames at the intersection of U.S. 30/I-35 and U. S. 30 and Dayton Avenue;and,
WHEREAS,staff is taking specific actions included in that approval,including following up with the Iowa
Department of Transportation(IDOT)on potential grant funding of$100,000 to be used for the installation of prairie
landscape plantings in the U.S. 30/Dayton Avenue right-of-way area; and,
WHEREAS,there is no match required for this grant,however,a planting plan,plant list,cost estimate,and
approved permit to construct in the right-of-way must be submitted to the IDOT by July 1,2003; and,
WHEREAS,the City's design consultant for the entryway concept,Dunbar/Jones Partnership,has indicated
that it can complete the necessary work in the time frame required for a fee of$7,705,plus some expenses;and,
WHEREAS,this design work would relate only to the portion of the project around the intersections of U.
S. 30,Dayton Avenue,and Southeast 16' Street,proposed by staff as the first phase of the project; and,
WHEREAS,the City Council has not yet been asked to implement the first phase of this project,and under
normal circumstances,the City would not begin final design until that decision had been made; and,
WHEREAS, it seems prudent to do what is required to seek major funding for a portion of the project as
investigation continues about funding the rest of the project; and,
WHEREAS,moving forward with this grant application should not be taken to mean that the City has decided
to implement this project with or without a partnership with those in the community interested in entryway
improvements.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,
that the agreement with Dunbar Jones for Basic Services needed to apply for the IDOT grant for the Southeast
Entryway first phase plantings is hereby approved for a fee not to exceed $7,705, plus expenses, with the
understanding that funding raised from the community will pay the fees and expenses for Additional Services needed
to implement the Southeast Entryway first phase plantings.
ADOPTED THIS 13'day of May,2003.
