HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Request for additional electrical outlets in Downtown area RESOLUTION NO. 03-163 RESOLUTION APPROVING REQUEST FROM AMES MAIN STREET DISTRICT FOR INSTALLATION OF ADDITIONAL ELECTRICAL OUTLETS ON MAIN STREET AND BURNETT AVENUE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,members of the Ames Main Street District met with members of City staff in March 2003 and outlined a number of locations where additional electrical outlets would be desirable; and, WHEREAS,these outlets would allow for the relocation of the Farmers'Market to the Burnett area and facilitate other special events during the year; and, WHEREAS,staff from the Ames Municipal Electric System has reviewed the request and designed a plan to add approximately 12 outlets to the existing poles along Main Street and a bank of 4 duplex boxes (8 outlets) on the side of the former Everts building; and, WHEREAS,the Main Street District has indicated that Tom Evans Plaza has the most critical need for additional electrical outlets; and, WHEREAS,permission has been received from involved parties for the wall attachments; and, WHEREAS,the Electric Utility is being asked to bear the full cost of this project for materials and labor; and, WHEREAS, staff is requesting City Council authorization to use funds from the Electric Utility Fund balance for this purpose; and, WHEREAS,staff is proposing that a$25/month fee be charged for the cost of the electricity for such regular users as the Farmers' Market,but there would be no fee for special one-time events. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that an allocation from the City's Electric Utility Fund balance for the installation of 20 new electrical outlets on Burnett and Main Street and electrical outlets in Tom Evans Plaza is hereby approved and a$25/month fee for regular users of the facility authorized.
