RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT TO
PURCHASING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the proposed Purchasing Policies and Procedures Manual would
replace the policies that were approved by Council on October 13, 1998; and,
WHEREAS,the proposed policies have been developed after receiving input from users;and,
WHEREAS,the procedures are intended to supplement the policies and provide a"how-to"
manual for users; and,
WHEREAS,many sections have only minor clarifications to make them more user-friendly;
and,
WHEREAS,the two most significant changes are as follows:(1)increase the small purchase
limit (amount requiring issuance of a purchase order) from $500 to $1,000; and (2) add to the
approved methods for disposal of surplus property to allow the City Manager to approve the transfer
of surplus property to agencies funded by the City or to non-profit/charitable organizations if no City
department has a need for the property; and,
WHEREAS, the Purchasing Division will conduct training and information sessions with
employees in using departments to inform them of the revisions and to replace their existing
Manuals.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the above-proposed changes to the Purchasing Policies and Procedures Manual are hereby
approved.
