RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF FIFTH STREET
FROM CLARK AVENUE TO PEARLE AVENUE FOR
POLICE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATIONBOYS &GIRLS CLUB
ROAD RACE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Ames Police Benevolent Association and the Boys and Girls Club would like
to again request the City Council grant permission to hold their 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 5,
2003, from 7:30 a.m. to noon; and,
WHEREAS,the actual run/walkwill take place from 9:00 a.m.to approximately 10:00 a.m.;and,
WHEREAS,proceeds from the event will go to the Ames Boys and Girls Club and the Ames
Police Benevolent Association; and,
WHEREAS,several volunteers,Ames Police Explorers,and Ames Bicycle Officers will provide
traffic control during the event, and the impact on traffic flow will be minimal; and,
WHEREAS, barricades and traffic cones will be moved as soon as the runners/walkers have
passed; and,
WHEREAS, the route start and end at Fifth Street and Clark Avenue, travel south on Pearle
Avenue to Main Street to Sixth Street,cross to the north lane at Hazel Avenue to Brookside Park,travel
the bicycle path through Brookside Park to 13' Street and the bicycle path along 131}i Street to Haber
Road, follow Haber Road to the access road at Brookside Park and the bicycle path, and reverse the
route back to Fifth Street and Clark Avenue.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the Ames Police Benevolent Association/Boys and Girls Club 5K Run/Walk event is hereby approved
with Council authorization to close Fifth Street from Clark Avenue to Peale Avenue from 8:30 a.m.to
10:00 a.m. on Saturday,April 5,2003.
