HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization 28E agreement RESOLUTION NO. 03-025 RESOLUTION APPROVING AMES AREA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION BOUNDARY MAP AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, based upon the 2000 Census and in accordance with federal requirements, a new Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)must be created to serve the Ames area; and, WHEREAS,this MPO will be a conduit for the receipt of federal transportation funding for transit and surface transportation planning and projects; and, WHEREAS, since Ames is now designated as an"urbanized area", the MPO will take the place of the Central Iowa Regional Transportation Planning Alliance(CIRTPA)in performing these functions; and, WHEREAS,the MPO will be a new governmental agency set up in accordance with requirements administered by the Federal Highway Administration(FHWA),the Federal Transit Administration(FTA), and the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT); and, WHEREAS,the three steps that must be taken to create the new Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization(AAMPO)are: 1)approval of a map demarcating the boundaries of the MPO;2)approval of a 28E intergovernmental agreement with the local governments whose jurisdictions fall within the new MPO boundaries(includes the City of Ames, Story County, and Boone County); and,confirmation of the MPO creation by the governor; and, WHEREAS, staff has worked extensively with representatives of the IDOT,FHWA, and FTA to prepare an appropriate boundary map and 28E agreement,and as an initial step in creation of the AAMPO, the Council is being asked to approve the boundary map and 28E agreement. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the boundary map and 28E intergovernmental agreement creating the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization are hereby approved subject to approval by both the Boone and Story County Boards of Supervisors.
