RESOLUTION APPROVING LUPP MAP CHANGE
AND TEXT AMENDMENT TO INCORPORATE POLICIES
OF THE SOUTH LINCOLN SUB-AREA PLAN
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the proposed changes to the Land Use Policy Plan(LUPP)will incorporate into the
LUPP the policies of the Sub-Area Plan for the South Lincoln Neighborhood,by which the neighborhood
is to be an area with the vitality of integrated land uses and lively spaces that encourage social activity
and strong connections to the rest of the community; and,
WHEREAS,the land use policy encourages redevelopment with diverse and more intense land
uses,while encouraging a sense of place; and,
WHEREAS,the text amendment to the LUPP describes a mixed-use policy for development with
areas of commercial and multi-family housing surrounding a central core with a mixture of residential and
commercial land uses; and,
WHEREAS,it also describes the size and scale of future development and calls for measures to
limit the occurrence and impact of conflicts between uses and to assure that new development is
compatible with the existing neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, the adopted Sub-Area Plan includes a summary of the existing conditions in the
neighborhood, the needs that are to be met by the plan policies, a description of goals and detailed
objectives, and the intended future conditions to result from meeting these objectives; and,
WHEREAS,the Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending approval of the change to
the text and map of the Land Use Policy Plan to incorporate the policies of the adopted South Lincoln
Sub-Area Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that
the change to the text and map of the Land Use Policy Plan to incorporate the policies of the adopted
South Lincoln Sub-Area Plan is hereby approved.
