HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Concept Plan for 6th Street Reconstruction and Streetscape Improvements RESOLUTION NO. 02-625 RESOLUTION APPROVING CONCEPT PLAN FOR SIXTH STREET RECONSTRUCTION AND STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS (GRAND AVENUE TO DUFF AVENUE) FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the reconstruction and streetscape of Sixth Street is a recommended improvement provided for in the Downtown Improvements Study completed in 1996/97; and, WHEREAS,it is the final phase ofthe Downtown Redevelopment Project that was approved by the City Council in June 1996; and, WHEREAS,the Project is to improve traffic flow,increase safety,and add to the aesthetics of the area; and, WHEREAS,to maximize coordination and minimize adverse impacts to the neighborhood, plans for reconstruction of Clark Avenue, from Fifth Street to Ninth Street, will be packaged with the Sixth Street Program and are included in the 2002/03 Capital Improvements Plan(CIP) as the CyRide Route Reconstruction Program; and, WHEREAS, the minimum streetscape improvements will include street lighting to match that on Fifth Street and street trees through the corridor and may include, depending on the budget, special sidewalk and crosswalk paving,benches,trash receptacles,planters,and vertical art elements at the intersections. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Concept Plan for the Sixth Street Reconstruction and Streetscape Improvements, as presented by Kirkham Michael is hereby approved.
