RESOLUTION APPROVING REQUEST FOR FREE ELECTRICITY
FOR 13TH STREET ENTRYWAY SIGN
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the City Council received a request from the Ames Foundation and Ames
Economic Development Commission(AEDC)for free electric service for the new entryway sign that
was constructed on 13t' Street; and,
WHEREAS,these groups would like to light the sign,and both parties apparently have paid
for the writing, conduit, and fixtures; and,
WHEREAS, the Electric Services Department has estimated the value of providing free
electricity to the sign at approximately$2.00 per month; and,
WHEREAS, one of the benefits of owning an electric system is the ability to contribute to
the community where possible, and there are many examples where our municipal electric system
has contributed funds or services to improve our city; and,
WHEREAS,given the relatively inexpensive contribution involved, staff is recommending
approval of this request.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the request from the Ames Foundation and the Ames Economic Development Commission
(AEDC) for free electric service for the new entryway sign on East 13' Street is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 17t''day of December, 2002.
