HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement with IDOT for South Duff Avenue Bridge Widening at Squaw Creek RESOLUTION NO. 02-574 RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT WITH IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (IDOT) FOR WIDENING U. S. 69 SQUAW CREEK BRIDGE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,over the past years,congestion problems on U. S. 69(South Duff Avenue)between Lincoln Way and South 16r' Street have been mitigated with various street improvement projects; and, WHEREAS,as a result of these problems,most of U. S. 69 between Lincoln Way and South 16t'' Street has been widened to four through-lanes and a continuous left-turn lane; and, WHEREAS,U. S. 69 from 200'north of the bridge to 200'south of the bridge over Squaw Creek does not have a left-turn lane, and this constriction in the roadway width affects traffic operations and safety on U. S. 69; and, WHEREAS, the IDOT had programmed the widening of the U. S. 69 Squaw Creek Bridge for completion in 2004; and. WHEREAS, the IDOT has requested that the City execute a right-of-way agreement for this project stating that the City will provide,without cost to the IDOT,any right-of-way for the project;and, WHEREAS,normally,this action would not be necessary for improvements on a U. S.highway as the IDOT would control the right-of-way,however,in this case,the City acquired right-of-way across the west side of South Duff Avenue from South 3'to South 16t' adjacent to and parallel to the IDOT right-of-way; and, WHEREAS,the right-of-way needed for the bridge widening project encroaches on the right-of- way that the City of Ames has already acquired. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the agreement with the IDOT regarding right-of-way for South Duff Avenue Bridge Widening at Squaw Creek is hereby approved.
