HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Elimination of one assistant transit operations supervisor position RESOLUTION NO. 02-542 RESOLUTION APPROVING ELIMINATION OF ONE ASSISTANT TRANSIT OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR POSITION FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,CyRide is faced with rapidly escalating costs in health insurance,liability insurance, and new IPERS regulations; and, WHEREAS, while costs are increasing, some of CyRide's revenue sources will decrease in the next fiscal year; and, WHEREAS, CyRide has adequate revenues in the current year to meet operating expenses in fiscal year 02/03; however, if decisions are delayed until next year, CyRide could face a difference between expenses and revenues of$106,000 next year; and, WHEREAS, cost controls have been established to eliminate travel, training, professional development, and technology improvements; and, WHEREAS,the Transit Board has had several discussions regarding reductions in other aspects of CyRide operations, and only one area for cost reductions remains—administrative overhead of the operations; and, WHEREAS, the operations supervisor currently has two assistants, one working during the morning hours through early afternoon and the other working afternoons and evenings; and, WHEREAS, the elimination of the afternoon/evening supervisor will accomplish the goal of reducing administrative costs of CyRide's operations by about $40,000 annually; and, WHEREAS,the Transit Board has reviewed and approved this reduction in force at its September 20, 2002,meeting. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the elimination of one Assistant Transit Operations Supervisor position is hereby approved.
