RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGES TO THE
SCHEDULE FOR THE OLD TOWN PRESERVATION
PLANNING PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Project was initiated by a request from the Ames Historic Preservation
Commission that the City hire a consultant to update the individual site information on file for each
property in the Old Town Historic District since the condition and specific characteristics of many of
the structures had changed dramatically since 1989; and,
WHEREAS,the City Council then directed staff to hire a consultant to conduct a three-phase
project, which would accomplish the work requested by the Commission and would include the
preparation of a nomination to place the Old Town Historic District on the National Register of Historic
Places; and,
WHEREAS, the consultant, William C. Page,was hired by the City to conduct the Project in
three phases; and,
WHEREAS,the completion of Phase 1 is behind schedule,and changes to the project schedule
are necessary;
WHEREAS, in the proposed revised project schedule, Phases 2 and 3 would proceed
concurrently beginning in January 2003, and this necessitates that the Agreement for Consulting
Services be amended to remove wording on Page 6 that states, "In no instance should Phase 3 begin
before completion of Phase 2.".
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
proposed changes to the Agreement for Consulting Services and the Scope of Work for the Old Town
Preservation Planning Project, which extend the completion dates for Phases 1 and 2, to November
2002 and August 2003, respectively, and enable Phases 2 and 3 to be conducted concurrently, are
hereby approved.
