RESOLUTION APPROVING PARADE ROUTE FOR
AMES HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,Ames High School has requested it be allowed to hold a homecoming parade on September 23,
2002,(with a rain date of September 25 at 6:00 p.m.)with the proposed route along the streets in the Central Business
District;and,
WHEREAS,the parade will begin at Bandshell Park,proceed west on Fifth Street, south on Clark Avenue,
back east on Main Street,and concluding at the Bandshell Park; and,
WHEREAS,the parade will last approximately one hour and will begin at 6:30 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS,barricades will be placed on streets along the route for traffic control purposes and will be staffed
by Ames High School officials and adult volunteers; and,
WHEREAS,the staging area for the parade will be east of Duff Avenue on Sixth Street,Carroll Avenue,and
Fifth Street adjacent to Bandshell Park; and,
WHEREAS,to accommodate activities in this staging area,parking will be prohibited from 5:00 p.m.to 10:30
p.m.to ensure that conflicts are minimized, and temporary no parking signs alerting parking users will be posted on
the Sunday prior to the event; and,
WHEREAS, the homecoming parade organizers have requested that on-street parking along the route be
prohibited, however, the Main Street District has indicated opposition to this request and wishes that the metered
spaces on Main Street be left available for parking as has occurred in past years.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the requests
from the Ames High School Homecoming Parade Committee are approved as follows: 1)the parade route will begin
at Bandshell Park,proceed west on Fifth Street,south on Clark Avenue,back east on Main Street,and conclude at the
Bandshell Park on September 23,2002,at 6:30 p.m. (with a rain date of September 25,2002, at 6:00 p.m.); and,2)
parking is prohibited from 5:00 p.m.to 10:30 p.m.east of DuffAvenue and adjacent to Bandshell Park on Sixth Street,
Carroll Avenue, and Fifth Street on September 23 (with a rain date of September 25).
ADOPTED THIS 10"'day of September,2002.
