RESOLUTION APPROVING FUNDING FOR
NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES FAIR COMMITTEE RECEPTION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,one ofthe most important standing committees of the National League of Cities
(NLC) is the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Committee; and,
WHEREAS, as co-chair of this committee, Mayor Tedesco was able to convince the NLC
to hold its fall meeting in Ames October 17-19, 2002, with about 46 participants attending; and,
WHEREAS,it is common for the host committee to provide some level of financial support
for the dining events scheduled for the participants; and,
WHEREAS, the Committee's schedule will include a reception at the Reiman Gardens, a
Friday night dinner aboard a dinner train,breakfasts at The Gateway Center,and a lunch at City Hall;
and,
WHEREAS,the NLC will pay for the breakfasts and lunch,with the Ames Convention and
Visitors Bureau paying for beverages and welcome baskets; and,
WHEREAS, the mayor is requesting that the Council authorize the payment of a $540
deposit to hold reservations for the participants for dinner aboard the Boone and Scenic Valley
Dinner Train on October 4 and an expenditure of$700 for food at the opening night reception at
Reiman Gardens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the funding for payment of a $540 deposit to hold reservations for the participants for dinner
aboard the Boone and Scenic Valley Dinner Train on October 4, 2002, and an expenditure of$700
for food at the opening night reception at Reiman Gardens on October 3,2002,is hereby authorized.
