HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Purchase of electric capacity from Omaha Public Power District RESOLUTION NO. 02-469 RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT WITH OMAHA PUBLIC POWER DISTRICT FOR PURCHASE OF ELECTRIC CAPACITY FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Electric Services staff annually prepares a report to compare the installed electric generating capability at the Ames Power Plant with the projected system peak demand each year; and, WHEREAS, as a member of the Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (MAPP), the City is required to maintain a 15%reserve beyond the projected system demand; and, WHEREAS, by pooling these reserves, the MAPP can maintain regional reliability when there is a loss of generating resource; and, WHEREAS, Ames benefits when we have a loss of a unit and can call on the MAPP members for assistance; and, WHEREAS,due to transmission restrictions,availability of seasonal capacity(June through August) is limited; and, WHEREAS, staff has located 6 MW at Omaha Public Power District(OPPD)for 2003 and 2004 that is not restricted by transmission restraints; and, WHEREAS, the price of this capacity is $15.00 KW season. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the agreement with Omaha Public Power District to purchase 6 MW of capacity for 2003 and 2004 at a cost of$90,000 per year is hereby approved.
