RESOLUTION FOR TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF THE
NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES AUTHORIZED FOR THE CIVIL
SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OR GRADE OF PATROL
OFFICER UNTIL FEBRUARY 1, 2003
WHEREAS, unanticipated increases in the cost of employee health care benefits has reduced the
budgeted funds available for other items of the police department budget; and,
WHEREAS, it is deemed in the public interest to meet the said budget shortage by not filling two
vacant positions as patrol officer until after February 1, 2003; and,
WHEREAS,Section 400.11 Code of Iowa,requires that vacant positions under the civil service law
be filled within thirty days; and,
WHEREAS, Section 400.28 Code of Iowa, provides for the temporary suspension of positions in
a civil service classification when the City Council finds it to be in the public interest to do so;
NOW,'THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City o f Ames, Iowa, that
it is found to be in the public interest to temporarily reduce, by two, the number of positions in the
civil service classification or grade of patrol officer until February 1, 2003.
