HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Additional expenditure from Sewer Fund for Demand Generation Project RESOLUTION NO. 02-350 RESOLUTION APPROVING EXPENDITURE OF ADDITIONAL $88,000 FROM AVAILABLE BALANCE IN THE SEWER FUND FOR DEMAND GENERATION PROJECT (NEW METHANE GENERATOR) FOR THE WATER POLLUTION CONTROL PLANT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the Water Pollution Control Plant(WPC)Plant currently generates electrical power from methane gas produce as a by-product of the wastewater treatment process; and, WHEREAS,the original plant construction included two methane-fired generators with provisions for a future third unit; and, WHEREAS, on April 24, 2001, the Council approved an increase in this methane generator project from $110,000 to $525,000 which was necessitated after an engineering analysis indicated that the two existing generators would now require an extensive upgrade to the control and instrumentation system; and, WHEREAS, on that same date, the Council approved an engineering services agreement with Kaeding and Associates for electrical and mechanical design work on this expanded project; and, WHEREAS,the plans and specifications for this project have been completed and a construction permit has been received from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources; and, WHEREAS,during the latest design phase,two components were added to the project scope that increased the cost estimate to $613,000modifications to the switchgear to accommodate the third generator and additional data connections to interface the two existing generator units into the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA) system; and, WHEREAS,staff is requesting that Council authorize an additional$88,000 for the project from the available Sewer Fund balance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the expenditure of an additional $88,000 from the available balance in the Sewer Fund for the Demand Generation Project(New Methane Generator)for the Water Pollution Control Plant is hereby approved. ADOPTED THIS 25th day of June, 2002.
