HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Change of lane configurations in Allenview Neighborhood area RESOLUTION NO. 02-335 RESOLUTION APPROVING IMPLEMENTATION OF RECOMMENDATION TO CHANGE LANE CONFIGURATIONS IN THE ALLENVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, last year, the Council had referred a request for a study to look at the traffic concerns raised by the Allenview Neighborhood Association, and the majority of its concerns relate to the proximity of Ames High School and its associated traffic; and, WHEREAS, a traffic study was performed by the City's traffic engineer; and, WHEREAS,as noted in the study,several long-term alternatives ranging in cost from$700,000 to $1,800,000 were evaluated; and, WHEREAS, the study identifies an option involving delineating westbound through and turn lanes on 20t' Street from just east of Hayes Avenue to just west of the intersection of 20'' Street and Ames High Drive; and, WHEREAS, in order to accomplish the lane configurations, 20' Street would not have to be widened, however, it will be necessary to restrict parking on the north side of 20' Street from the property on the northeast corner of Hayes Avenue and 20' Street, as well as from the entrance drive to Northcrest west to the end of the street; and, WHEREAS, in addition, to facilitate the lane realignment, the on-street parking on the south side of 20'' Street will need to be restricted from east of Hayes Avenue to the parking lot drive at the High School; and, WHEREAS,the cost of this change for pavement markings and signs is anticipated to be less than $2,000. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City ofAmes,Iowa, that the implementation of changes involving lane configurations in the Allenview Neighborhood area prior to the start of classes in the fall of 2002 is hereby approved.
