HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Special Olympics Torch Run route RESOLUTION NO. 02-285 RESOLUTION APPROVING IOWA SPECIAL OLYMPICS LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN ROUTE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, each year, law enforcement officers from around the nation participate in the Torch Run for the Special Olympics Games; and, WHEREAS, traditionally, local officers begin this effort with the opening ceremonies at Nollen Plaza in Des Moines and end at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames; and, WHEREAS,on May 16,race organizers request that the officers be allowed to run the torch into the city on South Duff Avenue; and, WHEREAS, as a group, they will run the torch to Main Street and then proceed west to Brookside Park; and, WHEREAS,the procession will be fully self-contained with law enforcement vehicles acting as escorts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the route along South Duff Avenue,Main Street,Northwestern Avenue,and Sixth Street for the Iowa Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run to be held on May 16, 2002, is hereby approved, and a police escort is authorized to accompany those participating in the Torch Run.
