HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Funding sources for skate park construction RESOLUTION NO. 02-261 RESOLUTION APPROVING FUNDING SOURCES FOR A SKATE PARK FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the Capital Improvements Plan(CIP)includes$50,000 in Local Option Sales Tax funding for the construction of a Skate Park; and, WHEREAS, in addition to this funding,the City received a State of Iowa grant for one-third of total project costs up to a maximum of$50,000; and, WHEREAS,the City also received a commitment to raise$50,000 from the private sector;and, WHEREAS,it was anticipated that,with$150,000 in funding,a 10,425 square-foot Skate Park could be constructed; however, the plans and specifications also included an alternate for a 5,800 square-foot facility in the event that the 10,425 square-foot facility was cost prohibitive; and, WHEREAS, bids were received for construction costs only, and the lowest bid was $179,519.30 for the larger facility; and, WHEREAS,total project costs for the 10,425 square-foot Skate Park would be$210,019;and, WHEREAS,to date,private fundraising efforts have garnered$29,426 of the original$50,000 goal; and, WHEREAS, staff has identified funding sources that total approximately $81,000 to accomplish the construction of the larger scale Skate Park. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City ofAmes,Iowa, that $80,593 from Parks and Recreation capital improvements funding to be expended for construction of a Skate Park is hereby approved.
