RESOLUTION APPROVING REVISED PROJECT BUDGET
FOR CYNTHIA DUFF PLAZA ARTWORK
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,in compliance with the Phase I design contract for the entrances to the Cynthia
Duff Plaza, sculptor Tom Stancliffe submitted his final proposal for the sculpture portals to the
Public Art Commission; and,
WHEREAS,the Commission voted to approve the artist's design and to request that the City
Council also approve his design and receive authorization to contract with Tom Stancliffe for
Phase II which will include fabrication, assembly, and installation of his artwork; and,
WHEREAS, in keeping with the overall plan for the site, the Commission is requesting
approval of an updated budget for the project; and,
WHEREAS, while the original cost of the design, fabrication, and installation of the
sculpture has remained at $35,000, other project item costs vary from the original estimates; and,
WHEREAS, funding for the project also changed because the Iowa Community Culture
Grant yielded$12,000 instead of the requested maximum of$25,000; and,
WHEREAS, the budget shows current funding for the project at $42,915.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the revised project budget for the Cynthia Duff Plaza Artwork is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 9th day of April, 2002.
