HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Addendum to Agreement with IUOE re: shifts at WPC Plant RESOLUTION NO. 02-207 RESOLUTION APPROVING ADDENDUM TO INTERNATIONAL UNION OF OPERATING ENGINEERS (IUOE) [BLUE COLLAR] AGREEMENT PROVIDING NEW OPERATING SCHEDULE AT WATER POLLUTION CONTROL PLANT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, shift operations at the Water Pollution Control (WPC) Plant (24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year)have been the practice for over 50 years; and, WHEREAS, the operating staff at the WPC Plant is currently using the basic shift schedule as described in the contract; and, WHEREAS,the current schedule was implemented in January 2000 when the City and the Union were unable to mutually identify an alternative shift schedule; and, WHEREAS, they have requested implementation of the proposed schedule to more readily meet the needs of the employees and their families while still providing 24/7 staffing; and, WHEREAS,WPC Plant operating staff have been reviewing alternate schedules for more than six months and recently proposed a new shift schedule,which includes 8-hour and 12-hour work days; and, WHEREAS,discussions with IUOE developed language to provide for a 12-month trial period for the proposed schedule; and, WHEREAS, the proposed schedule, if implemented, will continue by mutual consent,but either party may terminate the proposed schedule with 30 days' notice; and WHEREAS, if termination of the new schedule occurs, WPC Plant operating staff will revert to the current schedule as provided by the labor agreement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that Addendum F to the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) [Blue Collar] Agreement, as attached hereto, providing for a new operating schedule at Water Pollution Control Plant is hereby approved.
